I’m just finishing up Rene Gutteridge’s newest book, Boo Humbug. What a treat! I’ve loved the Boo series from the beginning, but I must say I think this might be my favorite one in the series thus far. I’m sure that it’s due, in part, to it being a Christmas story but it also has a lot to do with the hilarious cast of characters that Gutteridge has created. This latest book in the series gives us a deeper look into a few of the characters that have been somewhat overlooked and/or disliked in past books such as Alfred Tennison, Wolfe Boone’s former agent, and Lois Stepaphanopolis, who is dating Wolfe’s father-in-law.
Boo Humbug is set once again in Skary, Indiana where Lois has decided to take on the challenge of writing a Christmas play that will knock the town off its feet. She chooses to bring her revised version of A Christmas Carol to the Skary stage, complete with ghouls, goblins and an all-new take on the meaning behind Dickens’ words.
Lois is able to get many of the town’s residents to take part in her play and even talks Wolfe into taking part, although for him it’s simply to get out of the house and away from the stress of being a new father. She also recruits Alfred who decides to show Skary what he’s made of by marketing the play. Alfred had people showing up in droves, but what he doesn’t know is that a miscommunication may ruin the entire event.
Gutteridge brings a new twist to Christmas and Boo series fans will fall in love with Skary, Indiana all over again.
