I wrote a review of Deborah Raney’s Remember to Forget for one of my favorite Christian fiction websites, The Suspense Zone. I loved the book so much that I wanted to be sure to share it with you.
Deborah Raney tells a story like no one else can.
From the very first page, Remember to Forget pulls the reader into the life of Maggie Anderson. Within pages she’s been carjacked on the streets of New York City and is left alone in the wee hours of the morning without even the bottle of Jack Daniels she been sent to purchase. Her mind races between the sheer terror of the crime and the possibility this might afford her. Maggie decides to leave her life behind in an attempt to escape the controlling boyfriend she lives with.
She travels as far as the money in her pocket will take her and ends up in Clayburn, Kansas. She has just enough money left to get a hotel room for one night. After nights of sleeping on buses, the soft hotel bed and warm food feel like heaven.
She can tell the minute she meets the Bart and Wren, the owners of Wren’s Nest, the hotel where she’s staying for the time being. Maggie manages to convince Wren to allow her to stay on in exchange for helping out at Wren’s Nest until she can find a proper job and figure out what she should do next.
She also meets local business owner and all-around handyman, Trevor Ashlock. As Trevor gets to know Maggie, he can tell there’s more to her than meets the eye. He sets out to find the truth about her and her past.
I can’t say enough about now impressed I was with this book. Deborah Raney tells a story like no one else can. I was emotionally invested in the main character by the end of the first page. The characters are deep and realistic and couldn’t wait to see what would happen. I truly didn’t want this story to end.
