Chenille Rizzo is lonely. Ever since the death of her husband Lyle, she
’s been in no-man’s land, a deep winter that has frozen her heart and left her numb from the cold. Turquoise is the fourth book in Marilynn Griffith’s “Shades of Style” series and chronicles thawing of Chenille.

In her grief of her husband and child’s passing, Chenille turned to sewing for comfort. While delivering baby blankets to the preemie ICU one stormy night, Chenille runs into the other man who was in the hospital room when Lyle died. Even though she
’s avoided him for years, she finds herself caught up in an unexpected liplock with Dr. Sergio Loyola and enjoying it thoroughly.

While the good doctor is trying to defrost Chenille’s heart, life takes another turn for the unexpected and they both end up hurt and confused. Through the rest of the book, both of them slowly learn what it means to trust God and allow Him to bring summer to their lonely hearts.

Quirky and full of charm, Turquoise is a book to read when you want to wade through deep waters with a group of tight girlfriends. While all of Chenille’s friends are vibrant women of faith, they have their own stories and struggles. I would recommend reading this after the other books in the series as the stories are deeply intertwined, otherwise, you’ll feel like you have stepped into the middle of a high school reunion of best friends.

The one disappointment was that there were times when it seemed that the author was more concerned with Dr. Loyola’s thick chest hair than developing a believable relationship between the main characters.

Even through all the twists and turns, Chenille’s story is one that women from all walks of life can relate to. No matter what stage of life we are in, we all need to rely on God to take us through it.
