Katie Parks finds herself in a foster home in In Between, Texas when her mom lands in jail and her dad is a no-show. Katie is slow to warm up to her foster family who seem to be hiding secrets of their own. As she hangs out with the wrong crowd, Katie finds herself on the wrong side of the law. While doing community service and hanging out with her foster mom’s eccentric mom, Katie’s defenses begin to crumble as she comes to know the love of God.

In Between is written in first person and is an adventurous romp through the mind of a teenager on the defense against a world that has proven to hurt those who trust. Katie’s cynical quips take on a gentler tone as she learns to trust her new friends, her foster family and God.

Although the first few chapters move a bit slow as we get to know Katie and the cynicism of a defensive teenager starts to wear on the nerves before you get to the meat of the story, In Between turns out to be an enjoyable read.
