ABOUT THE BOOK

Far away from her Irish home, Mary Freeman begins to adapt to life in Midwest America, but family turmoil and her own haunting memories threaten to ruin her future.

A shattered cup. Cheap tea. Bitter voices asking what’s to be done with the “little eejit.” Mary, an impetuous Irishwoman, won’t face the haunting memories–until her daughter’s crisis propels her back to County Clare. There, in a rocky cliffside home, Mary learns from former neighbors why God tore her from Ireland forty-five years earlier. As she begins to glimpse His sovereign plan, Mary is finally able to bury a dysfunctional past and begin to heal. Irish folk songs and sayings add color to the narrative.

With Endless Sight, by Allison Pittman, is the third book in her series, “Crossroads of Grace”, but each book is about a different character, so they don’t need to be read in order.

When Belinda, a daughter of high-society Illinois in the 1860’s, heads west with her family, she expects to find a new life in Oregon. Yet with all her religious truisms, she is utterly unprepared for what God hands her. When crisis strikes, Belinda is thrown into a world that requires her faith to either strengthen or disappear, and she is called to face the perils of nature as well as the horrors of humanity.

At each new turn in her journey, Belinda becomes all too well-acquainted with pain, questioning God’s hand in her life. Through her ever-changing situation, she must learn to trust in spite of her circumstances, to forgive radically, and to overcome her own guilt.

As I read Belinda’s story, I joined in her anguish, as well as her realization of the life-changing truth of God’s promises. It is also a beautiful example of an atypical romance novel, as well as a story of pain, redemption, and hope. Belinda is admirable as well as real as she tries to reflect her faith. However, I would not recommend this book to young readers.

Liz and Kellie never expected a simple coffee date to change their lives. What started out as a simple get-together ended up as an appointment with Opal, an eccentric Briton who wanted Kellie to decorate her apartment at the local retirement home. Never mind the fact that she’s never met Kellie before and she doesn’t have a decorating business. The two best friends are quickly sucked into the delightful world of scones and afternoon tea; a sneak taste for what is soon to come. Instead of giving them a check, Opal hands them an envelope with two round-trip tickets to England. Liz’s life long dream of visiting London is about to come true. Their lives will never be the same again.

From GuidepostsMag.com:

How reading brought a stepdad and stepdaughter together
By Ptolemy Tompkins

I moved into my new wife Rebecca’s Greenwich Village apartment back in 1994, and knew that it would take awhile before I really felt at home. Like most New York apartments, Rebecca’s was small—at least by the standards of non-New Yorkers. It was also crammed full of her and her seven-year-old daughter Mara’s stuff. Where, in this jumble of Fisher-Price toys, leotards, record albums and Polly Pocket lunchboxes, would I fit any of my stuff? I wondered.
