Review: The Fruit of My Lipstick by Shelley Adina

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this YA series, It’s All About Us. This second book was more of the same – good, clean fun. (Also, check out my interview with Shelley here.)

This novel focuses on Gillian Chang, the loud roommate of Lissa Mansfield that we’re introduced to book one. Gillian is a tell-it-like-it-is kind of girl and her personality doesn’t always win her friends at the elite Spencer Academy where they live and attend school. Gillian is outspoken about many things, but especially about her faith which makes many of the other kids uncomfortable.

It’s surprising, then, when Gillian falls for a boy and begins to become tight-lipped and secretive. The new boy in her life, Lucas Hayes, is the resident genius at Spencer Academy and Gillian’s friends soon notice that he brings about strange changes in Gillian. When Gillian is confused with selling test answers, her friends aren’t sure what to believe. Gillian has a long road to navigate through her new-found relationship with Lucas. Can she survive her first love and maintain her integrity along the way. Can she maintain her faith, friendships and keep her wits about her where Lucas is concerned?

Adina’s book have become quick favorites in the inspirational YA marketplace, most notably because they’re interactive. The website/blog associated with the books is http://www.allaboutusbooks.net and contains the thoughts and ramblings of the current characters with new characters to be added as the books are released.
