This sweet book is a must-read for historical fiction fans. Great writing and a great story make this a book you won’t want to miss. Set in the late 1800’s in California, it tells the story of Alexia Travers as she makes her way in the world. Life has not been easy on Alexia – and continues to get worse – but when Justin Phillips shows up things begin to change. But, Alexia isn’t sure she can trust Justin….
About the book:
It’s 1877 and Alexia Travers is alone in the world. Her father has died unexpectedly, leaving her burdened with a heavily mortgaged horse ranch. Marrying one of the town’s all-too-willing bachelors would offer an easy solution, but Alex has no interest in marriage. Instead, she dons men’s trousers and rides the range, determined to make the ranch a success on her own.
But despite Alex’s best efforts, everything seems to go wrong: ranch hands quit, horses are stolen, and her father’s gold goes missing. Alex is at her wit’s end when wrangler Justin Phillips arrives in Last Chance with his young son, looking for a job. But there seems to be more to Justin’s story than he’s willing to share. Will Alex ever be able to trust him? More importantly, will the independent woman finally learn to depend on God?

This funny memoir is a look into the life of a Southern Baptist pastor’s daughter in Kentucky. It’s a quirky, fun read.
About the Book:
Growing up Southern and Baptist in Eastern Kentucky, Elizabeth Hancock’s world revolved around Sunday School, foreign missions projects, revival meetings and of course, the Kentucky Wildcats, who “glorified God through their goal-shattering, soul-shattering play.” Hancock chronicles her childhood misadventures with sardonic wit, detailing her and her sister Meg’s mischievous – if harmless – abuses of power (stealing Guess jeans from the Africa donation box, or hawking backyard swimming pool baptisms during her neighborhood’s annual yard sale) and lovingly recalling the wisdom imparted by her long-suffering parents as they ministered to their unruly flock. TRESPASSERS WILL BE BAPTIZED marks the arrival of a talented new voice in a coming of age story that is by turns comical and affecting.
About the Author:
Elizabeth Hancock was born to a Southern Baptist minister and choir soprano in Central Kentucky. She abandoned her Bluegrass roots to attend HarvardUniversity, and in 1998, became the first-ever Miss Massachusetts with a Southern accent. She earned her J.D. from Georgetown in 2005, and now practices law in Virginia.

I love Kathleen Y’Barbo. She’s an amazing author and, as I’ve had the chance to interview her in the past, I can say that she’s an awesome person as well. Y’Barbo’s newest novel, Beloved Captive, is an adventure that you won’t want to miss. It’s the second in the Fairweather Key series (the first being Beloved Castaway).
About the Book:
In this sequel to Beloved Castaway, Emilie Gayarre is learning to accept her mixed race heritage while finding fulfillment in teaching children of the key. There is no denying the attraction between Emilie and the handsome young naval commander, Caleb Spencer, who is shadowed by his own flock of secrets. But if her heritage is found out, even greater things than his career are at risk. Enjoy this historical romance full of risk and redemption. from Barbourbooks.com

If you tuned into our radio show the day we had Stan Toler as our guest, you’ll know what a funny guy he is. And his book, God Has Never Failed Me, But He’s Sure Scared Me To Death A Few Times, is equally hilarious. He had me laughing out loud and yet nodding my head at the truths he was sharing. (My husband, of course, thought I was going a bit mad.
Each chapter is filled with stories and humorous anecdotes. Amidst the stories, though, each chapter teaches a lesson – how we as Christians can overcome discouragement, how we can understand God’ guidance and how to deal with fear are just a few. Read the rest…

Clhoe Adams just got dumped. By her fiance’. The night before her wedding.
Needless to say things in Chloe’s life aren’t going well. Thankfully, she has her friends from her book group to surround her with love and care. When they decide that a little adventure is what they need, Clhoe reluctantly decides to join in.
I thoroughly enjoyed Daring Chloe. By the end of the book I was ready to try something new – something adventurous! It put a spring in my step and joy in my heart. How many books can you say that about? Definitely check this one out.
