Review: Scouting the Divine: My Search for God in Wine, Wool, and Wild Honey by Margaret Feinberg

I’ve loved each of Margaret Feinberg’s books for different reasons and yet each one has a central theme that keeps me coming back for more. In a nutshell, she challenges me to re-think my belief system – not in a “what do I believe” sort of way, but in a “WHY do I believe what I believe” way. Her outlook on life and God is refreshing and her honesty and authentic searching for who God is and how He fits into our modern world draw me in every time. The greatest thing about Feinberg is that she isn’t afraid to ask the “silly” questions – the questions we all have, but are too proud or too afraid to ask.

In Scouting the Divine, Feinberg does it again. She strikes out on a quest to find out what it is the God is trying to communicate to us through the Bible. Since sheep are often mentioned in Scripture, she sets off on a trek with a shepherdess in Oregon. Because fields and the farming life abound in God’s Word, she walks with a farmer in Nebraska.

It’s an original book and an original outlook on things that are so often considered mundane.

If you need some “fresh air” breathed into your spiritual life, you’ll want to read `Scouting the Divine.’
