Savvy Smith is back again and this time she’s bound and determined to get her own story in the school newspaper, byline and all. Though the advice column that was her idea is popular, no one knows that she’s the writer. So this time she’s going to cook something up that will make everyone stand up and take note of who she is and a huge fashion show slated to take place at the home of one of the Aristocats gives Savvy the perfect chance.
Unfortunately, as life normally goes, everything isn’t ideal or perfect. Savvy’s been specifically asked by the host to be sure to dress in appropriate high fashion and not to allow another reporter at the paper to attend. Savvy, certain that she’s going to be the reporter covering the fashion extravaganza, agrees to these conditions. So when situations arise that will keep her from the fashion show, how’s Savvy going to save her reputation now?
Once again, Sandra Byrd brilliantly explores the teenage mind and examines how seeking approval can get Savvy into and out of troubled messes. My favorite part of reading these books is that Savvy not just learns her lesson, she consults God’s word and His guidance for her choices.
I love this series of books and this one was no exception. If you have a tween in your home, these are excellent books to not only give her, but to read along with her. Byrd presents exceptional opportunities in these books to have a better understanding of the tween mind but also to talk with your daughter about choices and their consequences. Once again, this is on my recommended list for tweens and their moms!
