Nightingale by Susan May Warren Esther Lange had it all – a beautiful daughter, a fiancé who loved her, and a job she thoroughly enjoyed. The only problem was that she was not sure if she actually loved her fiancé, Linus. With Linus away at war, serving his country, Esther ended up living with her soon-to-be in-laws. Esther just wanted to know that in their union, the night before Linus shipped off for the war, was a case of love, not lust.

After 2 years of not hearing from Linus, Esther’s reserves begin to waiver when she receives word from the warzone. Before long Esther finds herself involved in a seemingly innocent correspondence with Peter, a seemingly “wholesome Iowa farm boy” who delivered Esther a letter from a wounded Linus.

Warren is an award-winning and best-selling author of over 25 novels and throughout Nightingale Warren’s expertise shines through. The storyline, as well as the main characters, was well developed. The story flowed so well I absolutely could not put the book down! It was a good thing I started the book on a Saturday afternoon, sitting in my rocker on the porch for the next 4 hours was where I could be found.

As prolific reader as I am, I am trying to figure out how in the world I have not run across Warren before?! I do know, however, that I will be looking for her books in the future.

Rated: PG – adult subject matter.
