The Promise of Hope by Edward Grinnan

The Promise of Hope by Edward Grinnan After years of abusing his body and hitting rock bottom, Edward Grinnan was asked “in no uncertain terms” to find a job – any job – and keep it for one year. He had barely heard of Guideposts Magazine and no clue the journey God would take him on.

While “The Promise of Hope” is not exclusively about Grinnan’s journey, he does share what he learned reading and editing stories of readers from around the world. Grinnan’s personal journey is one of hope as he battles back from the bottom of the pit. Through his journey he relates qualities essential to spiritual growth and narrows them down to nine steps to personal change.

I like how easily each chapter builds and intertwines with the previous chapter. Grinnan does an outstanding job sharing his story in a succinct, organized fashion, relating each step in a natural and easy progression that flows well. I had a difficult time putting this book down. I have found that, in general, self-help books do not read as easily as this one did for me. I hope Grinnan writes more books.

My favorite quote from this book is, “Our stories reveal and define us. They are they road maps of our lives.” How true, Grinnan, how true.
