Pure by Rebecca St. James is an inspiring devotional suitable for every believer. In this ninety day devotional, you will discover power of purity, the celebration of celibacy, and the awesomeness of abstinence.

The message Rebecca displays throughout this book, is one of attainable serenity for the mind, body, and spirit. Although it is not viewed favorably according to the standards of the secular, she makes it quite clear that she chooses a life of abstinence, because that is what her heavenly Father has called her to do: live a life of purity. She encourages young women to join her in her walk of celibacy.

We need more positive roles models like Rebecca St. James. She has demonstrated that she can be a celebrity and be celibate. In our society intimacy is valued with a price tag being sold to the highest bidder. Fortunately, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Pure takes you on a spiritual walk that is not only truthful, but filled with passion. Primped with bible verses, reflections, a deeper look, and how to apply to daily living, this is the book to have for those who are pursuing purity with passion.

Lies Young Women Believe

Chick Devos, Inspirational, Non-Fiction, Reviews No Comments

Lies Young Women Believe by Leigh DeMoss and Dannah Gresh contains some powerful truths that hit me like a ton of bricks. As I came to the realization that some of the decisions I made throughout my life were based on deception and untruths, I found comfort in knowing that my daughter will not be subject to the same slave-like mentality. She will know the truth early on because of the newly discovered truth in my life.

I like to refer to this book as the “mind renewing training manual.” The exposure of lies that the women of my generation believe liberates the mind, heart, and the soul. John 8:32 KJV tells us that ye shall know the truth and the truth shall MAKE you free. It sounds like we don’t have a choice in the matter except to be free once the truth has been revealed.

This book gives twenty-five examples of some of the major lies that young women tend to believe. It also gives real life situations and circumstances of how these lies are affecting women throughout the nation. The authors have conducted research and gained valuable data that proves that the vast majority of us believe the same lies. Which brings me to my next point, how the enemy likes to isolate us in regards to our thinking. We have a tendency to think ‘we’re alone’ but in actuality we are not alone, we struggle in the same areas, with the same thought s and the same feelings. We are a sisterhood with the same heavenly Father and that is one truth that will remain as long as you believe.

Great Devotionals for Women

Chick Devos, Non-Fiction, Reviews No Comments

I was recently introduced to Group Publishing – they have some amazing products available for women! I have been very impressed with each and every item of theirs that I’ve seen – from devotions to women’s retreat materials to prayer helps, so I thought I’d share a few favorites:

Devotions Galore!: Warm-Ups, Wrap-Ups, and Prayers for Women’s Groups – This book includes 90 devotions – 30 “warm ups”, 30 “wrap ups” and 30 prayers. It’s a great way to help break the ice at a new group or add some spice to an existing womens group.

The Sister Circle Handbook - The Sister Circle Handbook is a great companion to the four Sister Circle novels by Nancy Moser and Vonette Bright. Being a huge reading fan, I loved that these tie in with the Sister Circle novel series. What could be better than having my devotional time and my reading time merge? :)

Tickled Pink Prayer Devotion – How cute is this?!  I had honestly never seen anything quite like this before. What a great idea to give to a bible study leader, secret “santa” or any friend needing a little spiritual encouragement.

Here’s how Group describes it: Tickled Pink prayer devotion is a multi-sensory devotion that uses five simple object lessons to inspire new hope and joy. The Tickled Pink Prayer Devotion box contains the lesson objects and a devotional guide. Tickled Pink is an instant boost in a box—and a mini-retreat women will treasure.

Some of us not only know what a basketball is, but can put it in the hoop on a regular basis-and then again there are some of us who would rather just cheer our kids on from the sidelines. Some are married. Some are loving the single life. Some are doctors. Some know where the “Band-Aids” are. Some travel the world, others the supermarket.
