Katriona McLeod is living her dream. As a make-up artist to the stars, she travels the world and even has an Oscar under her belt. Doing make-up for the women on the latest Bachelor-wannabe show, Falling for the Farmer, is more a favor to the producer than a step up on her ladder to success. When the producer comes to her an hour before the start of the show and tells her he needs her to fill in as one of the contestants, she says, Uh-Uh. No way. Then, his wheedling gets to her, and his guarantee of only one show finally sells her. Far more comfortable behind the scenes than in front of the camera, Kat is counting on that one show guarantee. Then she meets the “Farmer,” Caleb Murphy, who just happens to be the only man she’s ever loved.

Caleb Murphy has NO desire to be on television, let alone be the focus of so much female attention. The ONLY reason he agreed to be this season’s “Farmer” is that he saw his mother’s impassioned audition tape. Her greatest desire is for him to find the love of his life. Since dementia is rapidly stealing her away from him, he can’t deny her anything. Unfortunately, wanting to fulfill her dream doesn’t make him good on camera. He can’t compromise his beliefs to go around kissing a different woman every night, nor does he appreciate being asked to show off his impressive abs. How can he possibly make this work?

When Kat trips off the runway directly into his arms, Caleb sees a possible ally. She thinks she’s there for one show, but Caleb calls her name out to go on to the next round. As the pressure mounts on Caleb to “stop acting scared of the women, or else”, the only solution he sees is to “fall” for the one woman he knows he can’t have.

With their hearts already involved, will Kat and Caleb reconcile, or will they finally get closure on a relationship that ended too abruptly?

Kara Isaac packs this story with giggles, then hits you with tears. I literally could not put this book down. (My read dates go from Friday to Saturday. What it doesn’t say is, I finished it at 4AM on Saturday.) I loved that Allie, from Close to You, and Paige, from Then There Was You, are Kat’s closest confidants. Paige is her cousin and roommate and Kat actually made her first appearances in the earlier books. It was nice to catch up with these other, much-loved characters.

I cannot say enough about how much I enjoy Ms. Isaac as a writer. Her sense of humor always shines through, yet she can also bring on the tears when called for. All Made Up is a wonderful addition to her book list, and I highly recommend it to all readers.

Rated G: I didn’t see anything out of line here.
