Half Finished by Lauraine Snelling

It has been a while since I’ve read a Lauraine Snelling book, and I’m used to her historical romances. This was a complete departure from that; I would call this contemporary fiction.

When one of MJ’s craft tubs falls out of the closet and smacks her, she decides to do something about it. With two of her best friends, she starts a UFO group for anyone who has Unfinished Objects sitting around their home. Their first meeting packs the room with so many people that they immediately see the need to expand to more than one group. By the time they’re done, five different groups are meeting, and friendships are being formed.

The meetings are open to both men and women, because unfinished projects are found in nearly every home. The only rule for being in the group is, you can’t start any new projects until you complete ALL of your old ones. From boats to needlework to knitting to woodwork to painting, the projects are as diverse as the people who attend the meetings. The fellowship is wonderful, and the support each person receives is just what they need to clear their closets.

This book was a complete delight! I laughed as the characters tackled projects they’d begun years earlier. I sobbed when one of them lost her much loved husband. I thought, THIS is the group I need!

This story will appeal to anyone, but I would say it’s especially geared to the crafty among us, or to the “near-retiree”. There were a few young people in the story, but most of those with UFOs were older. I loved this, and I think others will, too.

Rated G: No worries with this one.
