Lethal Beauty is a fiercely intellectual treasure that proves it can be both beautifully passionate as well as ideally pragmatic while it pulls on your heartstrings every step of the way. We can’t separate the heart from the mind without stripping away all traces of our humanity. Logic needs the emotion of the heart in order to ensure that we do not turn into cold, vacant carbon based shells walking around this world. Evil finds this the most enticing environment to live and thrive in since its intentions are not questioned when concern for others is seen as an expensive amenity rather than a necessity. We must be ever vigilant in taking care not to allow our neighbors and friends to fall into such despairing danger.

Mia Quinn is working on a heart-wrenching case that is taking everything she has to keep alive and on track. Just when she thinks that justice will be served, she is dealt a harsh blow that threatens to crush her spirit. Dealing with the head-spinning verdict along with the harsh reality of her personal life leaves her feeling uncomfortably lost and grasping at non-existent options. Not one to lie down and die quietly, she pushes forward and puts her mind and heart into resolving some new mysterious deaths that don’t seem to have any connection. A dark truth is uncovered, shedding new light on the new cases as well as her most recent failure. Real danger is waiting for her around the corner, but nothing will deter her from learning the truth. Will she unknowingly risk everything in her pursuit of justice, or will those closest to her step in and prove just how much they believe in her by doing whatever is necessary to keep her safe?

This is the first book that I have read by Lis Wiehl, and I was delighted and surprised by its delicate yet believable presentation and management of the harsh subject matter contained within. My heart twisted at what was laid out before me, but at the same time it melted at the love and grace shown throughout. This story is told through the eyes of one who longs for hope and love to prevail, but who also knows the cruel reality of life. All she wants is to see those around her live a life filled with promise and peace, so she does what she can to help make this wish come true.

Lis Wiehl is a passionate soul who deals with facts and logic. What really guides her is a deep-seated love and drive for this world to set its eyes on the bright light whose purpose is to transform and complete the lost and hurting of this dark and empty world. What her fingers cannot accomplish is made complete by the One whose light forever shines from the confines of this one heart who gives freely of what abundantly overflows from the depth of her soul. As a result, her writing both illuminates and warms the cold, dark corners of a sometimes lawless and heartless society focused only on its happiness and pleasure. What a breathtaking result we see when love and mercy are given without thought to reward or recompense. Those with ears to hear and a heart to receive will be thoroughly and undeniably impacted by this breathtaking journey into the dark heart of a world that threatens to destroy and maim all that appear to be helpless and invisible.

Rated PG-13: The subject matter discussed is of an adult nature that younger readers will not be able to understand or deal with.
