Archer Morales has always been in the background, in fact, he prefers being in the background. But when the news of his self-intended death reached the ears of Hadley Jamison, she is in complete shock. Though Hadley had only ever talked to the boy once in a class, she still felt guilty for never helping Archer. Feeling pity for the Morales family, Hadley attends Archer’s funeral. But what she wasn’t expecting was her encounter with a man named death, who offers her a deal, death will send Hadley back twenty-seven days in time, and the goal is to prevent Archer’s death. Hadley accepts the deal, and is sent back through time. But the thing Hadley didn’t know was that this deal comes with much danger. She also didn’t know that Archer was the most stubborn and sarcastic human being on the planet.

To start her mission, Hadley tries making friends with Archer, who just wants Hadley to leave him alone. He wanted nothing to do with Hadley. Failing getting rid of Hadley, he decided to take her to his family’s coffee shop, where Archer’s mother offers Hadley a job at the coffee shop as a barista. Archer, of course, wasn’t to fond of the idea. Gladly accepting the job, Hadley get’s closer to the Morales family, in fact, they felt more like a family to her than her real family did. Once Archer and Hadley start getting closer, Hadley soon discovers the Morales’ dark secret. Just when Hadley and Archer started to get along, an evil man named Havoc, who is tied to death’s deal, interferes with Hadley’s mission. Deadly accidents start to happen, even worse, these accidents are Acher’s worst nightmares! This leaves Hadley determined to show Archer that she cares for his family, and she will protect Archer no matter what the circumstances, even if it means her death.

I don’t even know where to start with this spectacular story! Alison Gervais really knows how to make readers attached to her characters. I enjoyed this book immensely, and honestly, I didn’t want to finish the book because I didn’t want the story to be over! I already miss the characters! I could hardly put this paperback down! I loved the characters, the settings, the steady flow of words, I thought it was excellent!! I felt that the writing in this story was very well done. This book is definitely getting added to my long list of favorites! I will most certainly be reading it again! I hope the author writes more about these characters. The book flows nicely and nothing feels too long. The characters all have strong roles and will do anything to protect one another. I recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure!

Rated PG: The story isn’t overall violent, but there is some bloodshed.
